Calley calls on Schuette to 'end coverup or resign' as primary race heats up
The race to win the Republican nomination for Michigan governor is increasingly tense between Attorney General Bill Schuette and Lt. Gov. Brian Calley heading into the home stretch. Calley ramped up his attacks against front-runner Schuette about allegations he had political meetings in state office buildings. (Doing so would be an unlawful use of state resources while in office.) At the same time, Calley has not responded to inquiries about his own work schedule. Adding to this fascinating duel, Schuette has the support of President Donald Trump while Calley has been endorsed by outgoing governor Rick Snyder. The other two candidates in the Republican primary - Patrick Colbeck and Jim Hines - largely have stayed away from recent confrontations. However, anything is possible with Aug. 7 just a few days away. MORE

U-M, MSU begin training camps as football season nears

The 2018 college football season is only one short month away. (We don't know why August goes by the fastest of all months. But it's a well-known fact.) Expectations are high in East Lansing and Ann Arbor entering the season. Michigan State and Michigan both are ranked in the top 15 in the preseason coaches poll. And the Big Ten East Division is shaping up to be one of the best - if not the best - in the nation this year. (Despite what is going on in Columbus, the Ohio State University remains the odds-on favorite.) It looks to be a season to remember. MORE
