Michigan hospitals eye capacity issues as coronavirus cases mount
 
Within 24 hours, Michigan's reported coronavirus cases jumped by about 500, state officials announced Wednesday. With the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, hospitals are thinking about their ability to handle a surge of patients. Some hospitals in the Detroit area, where the majority of Michigan's coronavirus cases have been reported, are already stating their facilities are at or near capacity. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer earlier this week said that one model projects 70% of Michigan residents could get coronavirus. If that happened, it's estimated that one million of those infected in Michigan would require hospitalization. But where would all those patients go? MORE

Spike in gun sales, first-time buyers amid crisis, shop owner says
 
Before Gov. Whitmer's stay-at-home order went into effect on Tuesday, Philip Sheridan says business was booming at his Saginaw Township gun shop. As his sales spiked amid the coronavirus crisis, Sheridan said about half of those making purchases were first-time gun owners. And Sheridan wasn't the only one seeing an increase in business. Soo Locks opens for 2020 season, 700-foot freighter is first ship through

The locks system shuts down for a couple months each year so workers can perform routine maintenance.
