Wixom Lake

Can Wixom Lake be salvaged?

Wixom Lake had a shoreline of about 84 miles. It had a maximum depth of about 40 feet. And then it vanished. With the failure of the Edenville Dam this past week, it's at best a muddy, old river channel, bordered by muck and sand. Now the question is, can it be salvaged? The Wixom Lake Association has about 1,900 members and probably won't meet for several more weeks. But beyond the personal havoc the flood wreaked on individuals' houses, boats and lives, the economic impact is staggering to contemplate. MORE

Why has it been almost 2 decades since the MHSAA added new sports?
hat
It has been 15 years since the MHSAA has added a tournament sport, the longest stretch without expansion since the 1970s. And it's been 20 years since bowling became one of the last high school sports to get official status in Michigan. A year after bowling joined, the MHSAA added girls and boys lacrosse and it's been quiet ever since. How many non-MHSAA sports are out there happening? What do they face if they want to be a tournament sport? And not all of them want to. We have a huge deep dive into the issue. MORE
