Any doubt that the race for Michigan governor was a heated affair were erased Friday night during the first of two debates between Republican candidate Bill Schuette and Democratic candidate Gretchen Whitmer. Insults were hurled. Accusations were leveled. There was palpable tension on display. The scene during Sunday night's debate between U.S. Senate candidates Debbie Stabenow (incumbent Democrat) and John James (Republican challenger), might have been less charged, but it was no less passionate. If these debates prove anything, it is that Republicans and Democrats certainly are having a hard time seeing eye to eye on the issues. The candidates will have one more debate before the Nov. 8 election. Schuette and Whitmer will meet Oct. 24, while Stabenow and James face each other tonight.
