April 28, 2021 Following the Jan. 6 siege on the U.S. Capitol, many rioters took to Facebook, posting incriminating selfies and bragging about their exploits in the building. It may have appeared as a reckless decision — the FBI has used those posts as evidence to charge rioters — but experts studying extremism say it makes sense, since social media like Facebook is where many were radicalized leading up to the attack. Several men from Michigan who were arrested for allegedly storming the U.S. Capitol were tracked down with evidence they posted to Facebook. The FBI included Facebook posts in five of eight federal criminal complaints tied to Michiganders. The posts show alleged rioters posing inside the Capitol, drinking a beer outside the building and bragging about their participation. More than 3.9 million Michigan residents have received at least a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine — more than 48% of the state’s 16 years and older population. In each case, the provider is required to input details including the date, dosage and specific vaccine type into the Michigan Care Improvement Registry, the state’s centralized vaccine database.
