In a recorded jailhouse phone call, Daniel Harris, one of four men suspected in an alleged plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, put the blame on a co-defendant, Adam Fox. He told his father that he saw Fox in jail soon after their 2020 arrests. They did not make eye contact. “That’s probably best,” his father said. Harris said: “He’s the reason I’m here, so … .” Shortly before a federal prosecutor played that recording in court, Harris testified that government informant Dan Chappel instigated the alleged plot. A jury in Grand Rapids could begin deciding the case against Harris and the others today after prosecutors and defense attorneys rested Thursday afternoon. Genesee County will be home to Michigan’s newest state park. It is the only Michigan county that doesn't currently have a state park, meaning when the project is complete, there will be state parks in all 84 counties. Chevy Commons, the former site of the Chevrolet plant, is the planned location for Michigan’s 104th state park, funded by the Building Michigan Together Plan. The new park’s location is within one mile of University of Michigan-Flint and Flint’s downtown scene, which includes numerous popular and vibrant restaurants and bars. READ MORE

A Calhoun County livestock farm is polluting the Kalamazoo River and its watershed with animal waste, according to a lawsuit filed at the behest of Michigan environmental regulators who say improper waste handling and manure spreading at the farm dates back nearly two decades. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel sued Holloo Farms LLC near Marshall this week, asking an Ingham County judge to issue fines and stop the agribusiness from discharging contaminated runoff through a series of tiled fields and county drains. A one-of-a-kind Vincent van Gogh exhibition coming only to Michigan has added even more pieces. More than 70 authentic van Gogh works will now be on display at “Van Gogh in America” at the Detroit Institute of Arts from October 2, 2022 through January 22, 2023. The 2022 dates celebrate the 100th anniversary of the museum’s acquisition of the van Gogh Self-Portrait in 1922. The DIA was actually the first public museum in the U.S. to purchase a painting by van Gogh. Tickets are not yet on sale for the exhibition. READ MORE
