Did you know the world's oldest living chicken is a Michigander? Meet Peanut. Peanut is a 21-year-old hen who lives with her owner Marsi Darwin in Chelsea. For reference, the average lifespan for a bantam hen is roughly five to 10 years. In January, Peanut was crowned as the world’s oldest living chicken by Guinness World Records. Darwin doesn’t know what to attribute Peanut’s long life to, but her best guess is love ❤️. |

A whole different ball game: Early last week Michigan was right under the warmest, driest part of an upper-level weather formation called an Omega Block. Now, get ready for days with highs only topping out in the 50s until at least next Tuesday. The white stuff: We can officially say winter is coming as the Upper Peninsula saw its first daytime snowflakes. In transportation: Michigan continues to add roundabouts. YouTuber who exposes sexual predators says police took his equipment and won’t give it back |
A local YouTuber: Kaizer Kinsley has recently branched out into trying to catch sexual predators in person. That’s what he was doing at the Grand Rapids Inn on June 1, when he says city of Wyoming police officers confiscated his laptop, three cameras and a wireless microphone. Background: Kinsley posts under the name Omma and has 731,000 subscribers. Last month, one of his videos got a Long Island middle school teacher removed from the classroom after the man apparently sent sexual photos to what he believed was a 15-year-old girl. Now: Kinsley filed a lawsuit against the city of Wyoming this week in federal court to get the equipment back. Wyoming police did not respond to messages left seeking information on the case and why (or whether) they kept the equipment in the first place. |

Michigan State will host Michigan for first rivalry night game at Spartan Stadium |
It’s official: The Spartans (2-3, 0-2 Big Ten) host the No. 2 Wolverines (6-0, 3-0) on Oct. 21, kick off is at 7:30 p.m. and NBC is broadcasting. It will be the second straight year the rivals play at night and the first time they’ve done so at Spartan Stadium. An update: Emmanuel Moseley has spent the last calendar year recovering from a torn left ACL. Now just two plays into his debut season with Detroit, he has torn the other ACL. More from the Lions: Defensive captain Alex Anzalone spoke with reporters after Sunday's game expressing concern about his parents being trapped in Israel during violent confrontations with Hamas. |

‘Ring of Fire’ eclipse will create a crescent sun for Michigan skywatchers this week |
Look up: On Saturday, Oct. 14, parts of North, Central, and South America will experience an annular solar eclipse — a sky event during which the moon obscures 90% of the sun and momentarily leaves just a bright, perfect circle of the sun’s outer edge. Still in the sky: Michigan’s beautiful fall colors can be seen from space in this satellite image. Speaking of the hues: A popular trail that offers views of Lake Michigan will soon be overrun with spectacular fall color at Ludington State Park. |
