A young mother had a 'perfect' life. Then came the deadly cancer diagnosis
A colon cancer diagnosis isn't something younger adults traditionally have had to cope with. But increasingly, and alarmingly, colon cancer is changing the cancer landscape. The number of colorectal cases diagnosed in Michigan from 1999 to 2014 dropped 18 percent. However, diagnoses among people under 50 has risen 32 percent. Chelsea Boet is a 34-year-old mother of two. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in March just two months after giving birth to her child. Boet and her brave story is the focal point of our in-depth look at colon cancer in Michigan.

14 arrested, released after police break up Kalamazoo protest

The month-long protest in Bronson Park in downtown Kalamazoo is over. Police started evacuation proceedings Wednesday morning. When it was all said and done, 14 people were arrested during the forced removal of homeless protesters, including a Kalamazoo city commissioner. The protest began on Aug. 19 in response to proposed city ordinance changes, which would lessen penalties for sleeping and camping in parks but were seen as a way to punish people for being homeless.  MORE

hat
As the Detroit Tigers polish off the last bits of the 2018 season battling for a top 5 draft pick next year, now is the time to experiment. Before Wednesday's day game against Minnesota, old-school Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire suggested he might take a look at using an opener this year. What is an opener you ask? It is a decidedly new-school way (championed by the Tampa Bay Rays) of starting the game with a reliever, who pitches the first, and maybe the second, inning. Why not give it a go. What could go wrong? MORE

Yes, fall lovers, your favorite time of year is almost upon us.
