Hospital price lists revealed: Comparing the cost of care at 9 Michigan medical centers
Hospital visits can carry a heavy financial burden, especially when considering the procedure and the patient's insurance. Plus, until Jan. 1 of this year, hospitals weren't required to reveal their pricing. A new federal law makes it mandatory for medical centers to disclose that information. We have compiled some comparisons of prices for common procedures at nine Michigan hospitals. Of course, this information only provides some context and not a clear view of what patients will be responsible for paying, since health plans and individual negotiations can cut down the take-home costs of a hospital stay or procedure. MORE

Whitmer takes aim at gender wage gap in latest executive order
 
In her latest executive directive, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer focused  on salary equity for state workers. The order, signed Tuesday, prohibits state agencies and departments from obtaining an applicant's former or current salary until the stage of of the process during which they offer employment and compensation. "It's pretty simple, women deserve equal pay for equal work," Whitmer said. The order is the tenth Whitmer has signed since taking office. MORE

Michigan officials warn residents about symptoms of norovirus
 
Protect yourself! That is the message from state health officials regarding norovirus as Michigan sees an increase in cases. Symptoms of the highly contagious virus include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramping, along with the possibility of a slight fever, headache, weakness and muscle aches.
