What's the weather like this weekend? |
Find a way to chill: This weekend will definitely feel like summer across the state. Saturday afternoon we have an area right along the Lake Michigan shoreline targeted for an isolated thundershower. Mark says it won't be as hot as last weekend, but still summery. Boat and beach forecast: There won’t be any widespread precipitation. However, the wind will increase some out of the northeast, and that’s the big influence on our boating and beach time this weekend. Weekend travel: If you’re looking to hit the road, be sure to check out the state’s new and ongoing road construction projects. |

Outspoken Michigan election official won’t run for swing congressional seat |
Sitting out: Barb Byrum, a former state representative and current head of elections in one of Michigan’s largest counties, says she will not run for the crucial local congressional seat that saw America’s most expensive race last year. Former congresswoman Liz Cheney, a prominent Republican critic of former President Donald Trump, was met with standing ovations on Mackinac Island Thursday where she spoke frankly about the future of her party and the country. Also in politics: Declawing a cat in Michigan would be illegal under legislation recently reintroduced in the Michigan House. |

As temperatures soared past 90 degrees this week, some classrooms in Grand Rapids Public Schools were in the mid-80s or higher, prompting complaints about the extreme heat from students and teachers, officials say. The district announced the decision late Wednesday, May 31, to close all GRPS school buildings for the remainder of the week because of the heat. Similar situation: Muskegon Public Schools will dismiss students early on Friday, June 2, due to high temperatures in the district’s buildings. More in education: Ypsilanti Community Schools is asking families to weigh in on two proposals the district hopes will improve transportation issues for the coming school year. |
