 As a physician, Dr. Paul Entler has seen how COVID-19 can make children seriously ill and infect the people around them. As a parent, he’s seen the emotional toll of the pandemic on his own children and how it’s upended their everyday lives. So he was among those thrilled by news this week that Pfizer is on the verge of obtaining federal approval to make its COVID-19 vaccine available to children ages 12 to 15 -- and the vaccine could be available to children ages 2 to 11 in the fall. “I have a 12- and a 15-year-old, so I’m excited, not just as a clinician but as a parent,” said Entler. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expected to authorize Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for youngsters ages 12 to 15 by next week. Consumers Energy is introducing new rates that surcharge busy hours of electrical use during the summer. Customers of the company will be charged an increased rate during the hours of 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday between June and September. The increase will be monitored through a customer’s electric meter. The intention is to discourage using energy at the same time that others are increasing their use, Greg Stevenson, director of summer peak rates, said. Well, according to MLive Chief Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa, there are a lot of factors that go into predicting the summer temperatures based on May weather. Since we don't know exactly what the end of May will look like yet, nothing is certain. But, Torregrossa does think this summer likely won't be a scorcher, based on recent weather.
