Daily life grinds to a halt as coronavirus overwhelms Detroit

Over the past month or so, the coronavirus has transformed Michigan's largest city from a vibrant metropolis to a nearly silent space. With more than 900 COVID-19 deaths reported in the city, Detroit has more casualties from the virus than neighboring states or the entirety of Los Angeles County, which has 14+ times the population. While nearly every public place is empty, local hospitals and funeral homes are overwhelmed. If you talk to Detroiters, most of them seem know someone who has fought a tough battle with COVID-19. The virus has changed life for everyone in Michigan, but nowhere is it more noticeable than in Detroit. MORE

Bear spotted wandering through Grand Rapids neighborhood

When you live in one of Michigan's largest cities, you don't exactly expect to spot a bear in your yard, trying to eat your bird seed. There is a bear on the prowl, though, in Grand Rapids. Many residents of the city have reported seeing a bear roaming around within the last several days. A couple neighbors even got video footage of the large animal spending some time in the Northwest corner of the city. MORE
