 While a fight plays out in mediation involving hundreds of allegations that a former University of Michigan doctor sexually abused students, some of them athletes, a separate battle involving the legacy of Bo Schembechler is playing out on the sidelines. The iconic former Michigan football coach — who remains the all-time winningest in school history, having won 13 Big Ten championships, taken the program to 10 Rose Bowls and coined the still-uttered catchphrase, “The Team, The Team, The Team” — has been the subject of intense scrutiny in recent weeks. A handful of former Michigan football players, along with his own son, say Schembechler was told about the abuse perpetuated by Dr. Robert Anderson and did little to stop it. House Bill 4434, which cleared the Michigan House last week, was pitched by Republicans who supported the bill as a step towards “normalcy” as the state ends its COVID-19 restrictions, arguing the measure would help small businesses bolster hiring amid a crippling labor shortage. If passed, Michigan would join 26 states that have cut the extra $300-per-week benefit, 20 of which have cut all federal benefits.  More heart than sales pitch, a pair of Detroit entrepreneurs are working their way into Michigan’s marijuana industry on their own terms. With a push for more diversity in the industry, deep-pocketed investors are eager to work with minority partners as a way to gain access to the competitive market, but Mark Stockdale and Sahir Al-Salam turned those offers down. “They weren’t into the culture,” said Stockdale, a 43-year-old Detroit native who’s started one of the state’s first entirely Black-owned marijuana businesses with Al-Salam, 37. “They were just there for the money.” MORE  As if being located on a pristine Michigan beach isn’t enough, this huge home is perched atop a small sand dune and is also just steps away from Sleeping Bear Dunes. The estate, which was built in 2010, is the definition of "location, location, location," as it sits right by Michigan’s most famous dunes.
