Disabled Michiganders, caretakers and advocates take issue with low vaccine priority Coronavirus vaccination for people with disabilities aged 18-64 is set to begin during Phase 1C of Michigan’s prioritization plan, but disability advocates say that’s a problem. It’s not soon enough, nor inclusive enough, advocates argue. “One of the frustrations is that, well, bluntly, they’re more likely to die,” said Theresa Metzmaker, executive director of the Michigan Disability Rights Coalition based in East Lansing. Those with disabilities are up to 10 times as likely to die of COVID-19, according to multiple studies. Under phase 1C, they will likely be waiting until May or later for a vaccine. The shop opened for the season Wednesday offering items at half price from noon until 10 p.m. The temperatures were in the 30s much of the day, but it didn't stop these ice cream fans from grabbing a cone.
