September 25, 2020 Election Day for the presidential election is Tuesday, Nov. 3, but Michigan voters started casting their ballots yesterday. Early voting is now underway for the general election in the form of absentee ballots. Voters across the state can head into their clerk's office to request an absentee ballot and fill it out right there and then. Those who request ballots in person are also allowed to take them home and return or mail them later. Clerks were also busy sending out absentee ballots to voters who applied for them online or by mail. With the coronavirus pandemic changing many aspects of life in the state, a large portion of the electorate in Michigan has requested absentee ballots for November's election. With that in mind, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has issued guidelines for holiday events, considering concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. Most notably, perhaps, the department has weighed in on the traditional Halloween activity of trick-or-treating. As you might expect, masks and social distancing are part of those guidelines. The information was issued after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention classified trick-or-treating as "high risk." More than a decade later, the personal hobby has become a brick-and-mortar business. Kolasa is the recipient of the very first marijuana "microbusiness" license from the state of Michigan. It means Kolasa can grow marijuana to harvest for sale as flower, oils, edibles and other products. He can sell those products from his own storefront in Onaway. “We want to get bigger,” Kolasa said. “We’re going to add on an extract lab, stuff for edibles. We can do everything in house."
