Michigan had some record snow totals from the Veterans Day snowstorm

Early November snow isn't uncommon. However, Monday's Veterans Day snowstorm certainly produced some uncommon totals across the state. The Detroit area recorded 8.5 inches  of snow and broke a 94-year-old record for highest daily snowfall in the month of November. Flint had 8.6 inches and topped its previous high for Nov. 11 by more than 5 inches. Then there was Leelanau County. The Village of Empire had an unofficial 48-hour snowfall total of 30 inches. (Dang!) But MLive chief meteorologist Mark Torregrossa tells us we aren't done setting weather records this week. MORE

Time for some MSU-UM rivalry week comparisons
hat
Oh, baby! It is Michigan vs. Michigan State week, and we've got a full list of things things to cover. We start with some financial comparisons between the programs, with a focus on the years since U-M coach Jim Harbaugh arrived. (Speaking of coaches, did you know MSU's Mark Dantonio is 8-4 against Michigan?) We look at how the "throw out the records"  cliche might not be so apt with these two teams. And, of course, we have your requisite "big brother, little sister" talk. MORE

Film puts spotlight on Upper Peninsula

Nothing screams the lights, camera, action of Hollywood quite like the Upper Peninsula. Well, maybe not screams, so much as is completely different from! So, it makes sense that it took a Michigan native to head back to her hometown (shout out to Norway) with a couple of her filmmaker pals and a small crew to shoot this lovely independent film. MORE
