Extremely warm February week coming for Michigan: Here’s what to expect |
Rare: We can expect afternoon temperatures to climb into the 40s and 50s this week. The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids is indicating this length and magnitude of temperatures for second week of February has only occurred a couple of times going back into the late 1800s. Predicted to not last: With all this warming weather, you may be wondering if winter is coming back. There are signs winter will return. A researcher who tracks the polar vortex says he sees changes with the vortex eventually bringing winter back to our area. Because of this: An Up North beach town has opened its Lake Michigan boat launch amid unusually warm February weather. |

An update: The teen accused of driving into United Auto Workers strikers outside a General Motors facility in 2023 was sentenced this week to non-supervised probation. More in crime: A Michigan woman has been sentenced to years in prison for the non-fatal shooting of her ex-husband’s girlfriend after invading his home in Detroit, authorities said. |

As eyes turn to November and the 2024 presidential election, Democrats nationally feel they have a winning topic – abortion. Democratic politicians are already sounding the alarm on what could happen to access should Republican Donald Trump win the election this fall. Their successes, however, hinge on one thing - messaging. A $90 monthly stipend and a delayed NCAA decision cost Michigan a talented addition to its men’s basketball roster. The story: Lee Aaliya, a 6-foot-9 post player from Argentina, will no longer be coming to Michigan, he announced last week. The agent who helped him in his attempt to gain NCAA eligibility is livid. More from the Wolverines: Jay Harbaugh has departed Michigan and is taking a job in the NFL, but it’s not with dad and a new two-round NFL mock draft from ESPN includes four Michigan players. Back again: The Michigan Panthers are returning to Ford Field. The spring football team, one of eight in the new United Football League, released its 10-game schedule on Monday. In doing so, the team confirmed that it will play five games at Ford Field in downtown Detroit. |

Try 150 different craft beers, ciders and wine at the 2024 Southern Michigan Winter Beer Festival |
Drink up: Beer lovers from Jackson County and beyond will have the chance to sample a wide variety of craft beers and more at the 2024 Southern Michigan Winter Beer Festival. The 13th annual event is scheduled for noon Saturday, March 9 at the American 1 Credit Union Event Center, located in the Jackson County Fairgrounds/Keeley Park. The event will feature more than 150 craft beers, ciders, meads and wine, according to the event’s Facebook page. A staple of the Metro Detroit community has closed its doors for good. The owners of the Maple Theater in Bloomfield Hills posted a heartfelt letter on social media saying they have permanently closed the business. |
