Bills, stress, fear mount as overburdened system delays unemployment checks
 
As an unprecedented number of Michiganders have tried to secure unemployment benefits in the past month, the state's system has become overloaded. Either you have experienced it yourself or you've heard it from others -- the website used to apply for unemployment isn't able to handle the workload as thousands upon thousands of employees were sent home due to the coronavirus outbreak. Applicants are getting error messages and those who want to speak to a person about their claim are largely out of luck. For some, that means bills are stacking up and bank accounts are running dry. Michigan becomes 3rd state to eclipse 20,000 coronavirus cases
 
On Wednesday, Michigan became the third state in the country to report a total of more than 20,000 confirmed coronavirus cases. New York and New Jersey are the only states with more reported cases. In a 24-hour period from Tuesday to Wednesday, an additional 114 COVID-19 deaths were reported in the state. It was Michigan's third straight day with more than 100 deaths linked to the virus. MORE
