This was the first Pride month officially recognized by the state of Michigan, but the month of June has a long history of empowering individuals within the LGTBQ community. “Once you start going to Pride, you realize that you’re not alone,” said Tim Reztloff, 57, as he reflects on his first Pride Month celebration in 1986. LGBTQ Pride Month in the United States dates back to the 1969 Stonewall riots. These sets of protests by the LGTBQ community were the result of a police raid turned violent that took place on June 28, 1969, at Stonewall Inn, a gay club in New York City’s Greenwich Village. The short answer? Michigan leaders are confident it’s on the way. “The process is underway to determine if we qualify for federal assistance. Underrecruited in high school, the Waterford Mott graduate began his college career at Morgan State, a Football Championship Subdivision school. He later transferred to Jackson State, where he had a breakout season this spring. After entering the transfer portal, he garnered interest from about 25 schools, including Ohio State and Penn State, before committing to Michigan as a graduate transfer.
