General Motors announced Monday a series of wide-ranging, cost-cutting measures that long had been rumored. GM will close three assembly plants, including one in Hamtramck, two propulsion plants, including one in Warren, lay off nearly 15,000 employees, including 8,100 salaried positions, and end production of three passenger cars: the Chevrolet Impala, Volt and Cruze. The cuts all will happen by the end of 2019.
