Lake Erie algae bloom now covers an area larger than Metro Detroit   The algae bloom in Lake Erie is showing no signs of slowing down. The most recent growth spike has the bloom covering about 620 square miles. And, just like the headline says, that is an area greater than the size of Metro Detroit and suburbs.
