 Multiple area healthcare leaders are urging people to get their COVID-19 vaccine. Leaders of Ascension Borgess, Bronson Healthcare Group, Family Health Center, Battle Creek’s Grace Health and the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine are pleading with unvaccinated residents to get their shot amid rising COVID-19 cases in Michigan. Cases, hospitalizations and positive tests are all on the rise as the more infectious delta variant makes its way through Michigan. “Now, months after safe and effective vaccines have become available to all Americans ages 12 and up, we are alarmed to see the virus’s devastation beginning all over again,” the healthcare leaders said. ►Michigan becomes 48th state to reach highest coronavirus transmission level  The family of an autistic 4-year-old girl who went missing for 24 hours in the Upper Peninsula woods is thanking law enforcement and hundreds of volunteers who helped bring her home. A message came in over the radio reporting that two volunteers on horseback had found Madison. They were riding in the woods yelling “Madison, do you want a cookie?” when a blonde head popped up from the underbrush and asked, “Cookie?” What happened next was a series of firsts for Madison. She got her first horse ride, and according to the family, the normally non-verbal child spoke the words “pony,” “cookie” and “helicopter” several times.  Two decades and you get fired on your birthday. Cutting Don Muhlbach, who has played in the second-most games in Detroit Lions history, was something of a surprise. READ MORE  With new young wolves to track and the GPS collars on some of Isle Royale’s transplanted wolves no longer transmitting, researchers this spring headed to the remote island in Lake Superior for a little catch-collar-and-release. Their efforts in April and May have paid off, the National Park Service announced this week. A group of scientists and wildlife workers used foothold traps to catch and collar five wolves. The group included four young wolves who had not been collared before and are believed to have been born on the island in 2020, as well as a male wolf known as W012M, which was brought to Isle Royale in 2019 from Michipicoten Island, Ontario, also in northern Lake Superior. This wolf’s original collar, put on him during his re-location, needed a replacement with new batteries.
