August 14, 2020 A resolution supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and racial equality at Mona Shores Public Schools has sparked heated debate among residents. Mona Shores school board president Stan Miller told MLive that despite some public push back, the board plans to keep and implement the Black Lives Matter resolution. So what was so controversial about the resolution? The resolution claims the school district has remained predominantly white because of systemic racism in Norton Shores. Included in the resolution is the following statement: “Mona Shores’ growth as a primarily white school district occurred as a result of endemic racist housing policies, restrictive covenants, and intentional urban planning that prevented people of color from even entering white spaces, let alone establishing themselves in the city in any permanent way.” More from this important story, and what residents are saying, HERE. Sure, decent Michigan roads for these silly cars we're driving ourselves are a pipe dream at this point. But in the category of realistic plans, Michigan’s first roadway built for self-driving vehicles is in phase one of design. Industry officials are working with the state of Michigan to develop a 40-mile autonomous corridor between Detroit and Ann Arbor. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the project in Detroit on Thursday, Aug. 13. The idea is to construct designated lanes for self-driving vehicles between Detroit and Ann Arbor along I-94 and Michigan Avenue. Smart technology would be built along the path, including road sensors to detect traffic, weather and road conditions. Siri, fix the damn roads. MORE It seems like just yesterday we were looking forward to summer weather. But all of the sudden it's mid-August and we can all hear the tick tock. Meteorologists can see the change of seasons coming by looking at the northern edge of our typical weather maps. And they see the rain/snow line showing up at the northern edge of the map next week. At this time of year, the sun is losing heating power quickly in the northern half of Canada. The colder blobs of air start to work their way southward. Vest weather, we're looking right at you Just give us a few more beach days! READ THIS Considering Cedric Shields spent decades perfecting this BBQ, it's the least you could do to hop in the car and drive to Flint. It's worth it. This is an award-winning Flint food truck! Talk about a lifelong passion, Shields used to give away a free chicken wing to every car that came by when he started selling his barbecue back in 1999. He would cook on a small barrel grill outside of a drive-through store at the corner of Welch Boulevard and Chevrolet Avenue. Now, Shield’s Tender Bonez BBQ food truck, located at 2638 Flushing Road in front of K & J Market, sells 200 pounds of meat every day.
