In today’s newsletter, we look at the condition of Michigan's roadways, how a Traverse City business making masks gained attention from the FBI and the data that shows winter just wasn't that bad this year. |
If Roe v. Wade is overturned, how will it impact Michigan? |
A rare Supreme Court leak has many voices echoing in support of abortion rights. Simultaneously, anti-abortion voices are raised in excitement over a possible end to Roe v. Wade. But how would a now-likely overturn of the landmark case play out here in Michigan? We have more on that below, but we also want to circle back on yesterday's elections throughout Michigan. Our reporters have local results for you. You can find out what passed, what failed and which candidates won special elections with our coverage here. We hope today's newsletter brings you the information you need and the Michigan connection you desire.

Michigan roads are still in rough shape, but they're getting better. |
1 in 3 roads: A third of Michigan roads are listed in "poor" condition. It might not surprise you if you drive the streets of Michigan on a regular basis.
But the roads are improving: The good news? Michigan’s roads are in their best shape in years, according to an annual assessment. A total of 25.8% of roads in Michigan are rated in "good" condition. It's the highest mark since the data began in 2004.
Still, the bad outweighs the good: Michigan has more miles of “poor” roads than miles of “good” ones at the moment, and families across the state are paying a price for those "poor" roads. |

You've heard a lot of mask stories in the last two years. Here's one you haven't heard. |
A man in Traverse City had an idea: Brandon Williams had big plans. He saw a future in 3D printing that could revolutionize manufacturing. When the world needed masks, he decided to focus on PPE. “We were going to be heroes and we’re going to save the world,” Williams said.
Then the FBI showed up: Williams' business overpromised and undersold. Accusations of fraud, false advertising and price gouging overshadowed DreamLab’s good will and tore it apart.
So how did it all go so wrong? We have the full look at Williams' story and where it all stands now, two years later. |

Winter in Michigan actually wasn't that bad this year. (But it's OK if you still hated it). |
Meet the Winter Severity Index: The severity of a winter starts when we get our first snow, and ends with the last snow. All of the time spent in between the first and last snow, with sizes of snowstorms, snow on the ground and cold temperatures, gives us the number of index. So what does the index say? Well, it definitely depends on where you were in Michigan this winter. A few places still had it rough. But, overall, this just won't go down in the books as a harsh Michigan winter. We have a full look here.
Now, let's leave winter in the past: Temps are going to shoot up in the near future, but while you are out there enjoying the incoming summer weather, don't eat anything you catch while fishing in these Southeast Michigan lakes and rivers.
