His loss didn't stop him from targeting the state
In today's newsletter, how Michigan played a role in Trump’s 2020 election indictment, three Michigan cities land in top 100 places to live in the U.S. and a look ahead at this weekend's forecast. |
Sun, sand and mermaid milkshakes |
Great weather is in store for Michigan this weekend, and it's the perfect opportunity to hit your nearest shoreline. Be sure to check out the beach and boating forecast before hitting the water. It's unclear if mermaids live in Lake Michigan, but the Mermaid's Milk milkshake being served at The Sandbox in Ludington has me rethinking the existence of these mystical creatures. Speaking of sand and shore, some of the world’s best sand sculptors will showcase their talents in Port Huron this weekend for Michigan’s first and only master sand sculpting competition. |

How Michigan played a role in Trump’s 2020 election indictment |
Michigan played a key role in former President Donald Trump’s plan to overturn 2020′s presidential election results according to a grand jury indictment released earlier this week. The details: Though Trump lost Michigan by 154,188 votes in 2020, it did not stop him from targeting the state, and more specifically, Detroit in the aftermath of the election. Without evidence, Trump pushed claims that a “suspicious vote dump” occurred and falsely claimed there were "far more votes than people" in Detroit. Prosecutor says: Only three of an initial nine individuals named will face charges for their alleged role in a scheme to access voting machines following the 2020 presidential elections, Muskegon County Prosecutor DJ Hilson said in a statement. |

Lake Michigan diesel spill travels north but remains offshore |
Wind and waves pushed diesel fuel spilled by a stricken Lake Michigan freighter about 10 miles north on Thursday but authorities say the pollution remains offshore. Backstory: The U.S. Coast Guard has been cautious about releasing a spill volume estimate while the investigation continues, but said the Manitowoc reported about 1,000 gallons was released. A large sheen near Onekama was reported by the Coast Guard on Thursday, Aug. 3, after the freighter spilled diesel shortly after leaving Manistee on Wednesday. More in public interest: The building that housed the Ludington Biological Station for more than five decades is now contaminated with the lamprey-killing compound TFM and the government hasn’t done anything to fix it, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court. |

Roaring Success: Detroit Lions sell out season tickets, waitlist for 2024 season |
Making history: The Detroit Lions announced a complete sellout of their season tickets for the upcoming 2023 season. This marks the first time the Lions Loyal memberships (season ticket packages) have sold out since the team began playing at Ford Field nearly 21 years ago. Lions head coach Dan Campbell has been known for his eccentric behavior ever since taking on the role. But as he gears up for his third season, one of his wildest ideas has resurfaced: a live lion on the sidelines. In the NBA: The Pistons, Thunder, Kings and Raptors are the four teams set to take part in the ninth NBA Canada Series, with games taking place in Montreal and Vancouver this October. |
