How Ann Arbor saved the Michigan Theater 40 years ago

So many venerable structures have been lost to the sands of time in the name of progress. And, certainly, not every old building is worth fussing about. However, this is a story about a building that was worth the extraordinary effort to save it. This is a story of those behind that effort. This is a story that we celebrate 40 years after a gamble was made, political and financial support came through, and an Ann Arbor community gem stayed alive. MORE

Michigan Republicans want Trump to run uncontested in primary
hat
We already knew President Donald Trump was going to be on the ballot for Michigan's March 10, 2020 primary. However, it was revealed that the Michigan Republican Party wanted just Trump's name on the GOP ballot. We sent ace environmental reporter Garret Ellison to investigate what is going on and what, if anything, is being done about it. Turns out, the problem might be in the sewers. MORE

Presenting our 25 greatest football players project
hat
Michigan has a rich high school football tradition. Which, actually, proves problematic when trying to come up with all-time great player lists. But we squared our shoulders and tackled the problem with textbook form. You may not agree with our ordering, but every one of the athletes we selected deserves mention. Of course, sports history is a great forum for spirited debate! Feel free to add any names you think we overlooked in the comment section of any of these nine regional top 25 lists. MORE

Clio High School alumni open time capsule from 1928

Clio residents are saying good-bye to an old friend this year as a school building constructed in 1928 has been slated for demolition. However, the former Clio High School on Tuesday hosted one final hurrah. Alumni gathered for an open house during which a nearly 100-year-old time capsule was opened. Plenty of memories - some long forgotten - were uncovered. MORE
