Public visitation for former U.S. Representative John Dingell held in Dearborn

Family members and friends, colleagues and constituents all lined up Monday to pay final respects for John Dingell. It is the first in a series of memorial services this week for the WWII veteran who served in Congress for nearly 60 years. Dingell, the longest serving member of Congress in U.S. history died Thursday at 92. His casket was draped with an American flag at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn. U.S. Rep. Candice Miller, a Macomb County Republican, spoke of Dingell's impact. "When you think about what an incredibly impactful life that he had -- the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species (Act), various issues he got involved in. He was a true warrior." MORE

It's still the dead of winter in Michigan, and there's a lot of "fun" wintery weather to deal with today and the rest of the week. MLive chief meteorologist Mark Torregrossa is calling today's weather a near carbon copy of last week when southern Michigan dealt with ice storms and northern Michigan had plenty of snow. None of Michigan's 83 counties will be spared. MORE

Senate Rep. taking vetting role seriously with Whitmer appointees

It is in the Michigan constitution for the state Senate to vet governor appointees. In the past, it has been more of a formality than anything of substance. That is all changing with this year's Republican-controlled Senate and Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer's high-level appointees. The Senate has 60 days to reject certain appointments by majority vote. MORE

It is nice to have our boys of summer back, but they have about as good a chance at contending this season as we in Michigan have of spring starting this month. MORE
