'Pilgrimage to Keep Families Together' to walk from Detroit to Lansing
A group of immigration advocates set off Monday on a 90-mile trek from Detroit to Lansing. The group believes the recent adoption of the hardline approach to federal immigration policy is creating unnecessary harm by tearing families apart. The march is in support of Ded Rranxburgaj, an Albanian man who faces deportation after his humanitarian status was revoked in October. Rranxburgaj is the sole caretaker for his wife, Flora, who has multiple sclerosis. They and their two sons are living in a church in downtown Detroit. MORE

State will appeal court ruling blocking aid to private schools

A Michigan court ruling in April declared that it was unconstitutional for the state to reimburse private schools for the cost of fire drills and other state requirements. Attorney General Bill Schuette is leading the challenge against that ruling. In a statement, Schuette said such requirements are financially burdensome, and not reimbursing them is crippling to private schools. MORE

Tigers snap 11-game losing streak to Cleveland

A month and a half into the baseball season seems to be a nice time to check in on the Detroit Tigers. And, looky here, our Motown kitties are only two games back in the division after Monday's 6-3 win against the visiting Cleveland Indians. (Niko Goodrum played hero with a pair of home runs.) Huh. For a team that was predicted to be among the worst in the league this year, and despite a rash of recent injuries, the Tigers have been among the more pleasantly mediocre. There's nothing like the lowered expectations of a rebuilding lineup to render an 18-22 record palatable. MORE

Ranking Cedar Point's top 10 roller coasters

There are so many quality roller coasters at Cedar Point, it is a daunting task to pick the 10 best, let alone put them in an acceptable order for the masses. MLive roller coaster beat writer Ed Pevos is up to the challenge, however. Not to give away too much here, but the new Steel Vengeance is near the top of this list. And, despite its nostalgia factor, Blue Streak had to settle for an honorable mention nod. You will always and forever be our first love, Blue. MORE
