 Throughout the pandemic, Michigan residents have filled the void of little to no in-person human contact with virtual happy hours, coffee dates, book clubs, community message boards. They’ve taught their grandparents how to use Zoom, held their birthday parties and holiday “gatherings” online, patched in loved ones on handheld devices so they could watch weddings or funerals without risk of disease. They’ve lost touch with some friends, deepened their relationships with others. Some used technology and a lot of time stuck at home alone to find lasting romance. Here are some stories of how Michiganders maintained human connection while staying physically distant: READ MORE ►A year of coronavirus deepens Michigan's political division  As of yesterday, all Michigan adults that have underlying health conditions are eligible to sign up for a COVID-19 vaccine appointment. Of course, that doesn't mean you will immediately be able to secure an appointment in your county. The expansion doesn’t necessarily coincide with an increase in doses allocated to the state, but it does allow residents in areas moving through their waitlists quicker than others to keep pace on scheduling appointments. Vaccine appointments can be scheduled through local health departments and retail pharmacies including Meijer, Walgreens and Rite Aid.MORE  Here's the scoop on this week's very spring-appropriate weather, courtesy of MLive Chief Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa: While it’s going to be very spring-like through Thursday, there are some better time periods to be outside and enjoy. Two rainy periods are coming to Michigan this week. Tuesday night and Wednesday will have a few showers with maybe a quick round of thunder in a shower.  In an NCAA Tournament full of upsets, with top Big Ten teams getting bounced all over the bracket, No. 1 seed Michigan found a way to survive and advance. The Wolverines won a thriller against 8 seed LSU in the Tournament’s second round on Monday night, 86-78. Michigan is on to the Sweet 16 for the fourth straight time. Eli Brooks kept the Wolverines in it. Chaundee Brown brought them to the finish line. Each scored 21 points as Michigan overcame a nine-point first-half deficit against the offensively gifted Tigers. MORE ►Also in sports: Michigan baseball overcomes 7-0 deficit in 9th inning to beat MSU  Melissa Jones didn’t think she was being traumatized treating COVID-19 patients for months as an ICU nurse at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. Of course it was difficult work, but she was just doing her job. Then, last August, she caught the coronavirus. She eventually landed in the hospital for a few days, and was off work for six weeks. When she went back, she was hit with an “overwhelming sense of dread.” She realized she couldn’t face patients who were struggling to breath when she knew that feeling so well herself.
