Today is a big day, not only for Dayton and the state of Ohio, but also for the nation.

Today in the Morning Briefing, we tell you what you need to know about three major events happening today: the Presidential Inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the Ohio State football team playing for the national championship.

Inauguration Day

                        

• Move indoors: Here’s what to know about the arrangements as organizers scramble to adapt to the inauguration’s move indoors because of concerns about cold temperatures.

• Performances: Even though the inauguration moved, there will still be well-known performers, influential billionaires as guests and foreign heads of state. Here are some things to watch for.

• Big for Ohio: Middletown native JD Vance will become the first Ohioan to serve as vice president of the United States and the first Ohioan to enter the White House since the 1920s.

• Vance’s rise: We talked to locals about Vance’s history in Middletown and what helped him reach the country’s second-highest office.

• Donations: Trump’s inaugural committee is expected to raise a record amount of more than $200 million for the ceremony.

• JD Vance’s mother: Beverly Aikins said she has recovered enough from a health scare in December to attend her son’s inauguration.


Martin Luther King Jr. Day

                        

• MLK Day events slated for today: Groups will host special events to honor the legend, and here is a guide to a number of them.

• The Six Triple Eight: The Neon in downtown Dayton will offer a free, student-targeted screening of “The Six Triple Eight” today. “The Six Triple Eight” tells the inspiring, powerful story of World War II’s first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color led by Daytonian Charity Adams Earley.

• Martin Luther King Jr.’s ties to Dayton: Here are a few facts you didn’t know about King’s ties to the Dayton area, which include several visits to local colleges and universities.

• Interesting facts: Here are five things you might not have known about Martin Luther King Jr.


Ohio State vs. Notre Dame for the national championship

                        

• Heavily favored: Ohio State is favored by 9½ points, the second-largest spread in College Football Playoffs title game history.

• Job not finished: Ohio State players are looking forward to Notre Dame matchup. Here’s how to follow the DDN for game updates.

• Uncharted territory: A new part of this rapidly changing college football world facing these two teams is the challenge of a 16-game season.

• Loss to Michigan: A bitter loss in ‘The Game’ didn’t keep Ohio State from getting a national title shot.

• Heroes emerge: Star players rose to the occasion with a dramatic win in the Cotton Bowl over Texas.

• Pacing themselves: Ohio State has been purposely pacing itself on offense all season, huddling more and trying to limit the number of snaps in each game of what the Buckeyes hoped and anticipated would be a long run.
