Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has said the state will increase coronavirus testing. Specifically, Whitmer has pledged to double the amount of people being tested in Michigan. She and others continue to express a need for increased testing to understand the full scope of COVID-19's impact in Michigan. It will help determine when the state's economy can safely re-open. Michigan greenhouses submit May 1 reopening plan to governor
 
Michigan greenhouses and garden centers are hoping to reopen to the public on May 1, which is the current date that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's stay-at-home order is set to be lifted. The Michigan Greenhouse Growers Council submitted a plan to Whitmer detailing safety regulations that could help prevent the spread of COVID-19 while allowing customers to purchase goods and services. MORE

U-M freezes salaries and hiring to face anticipated losses of up to $1 billion
 
The University of Michigan is now among employers making changes due to hard economic times brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. A salary freeze and a hiring freeze are now in place, along with pay cuts for several top officials employed by the university. Departments will still be able to hire student employees as needed, the university explained. MORE

While everyone is stuck inside during the pandemic, dogs are a source of comfort. We chatted with a few Lions who have pet dogs and asked them to share some puppy love during this rough time.
