Is abortion still legal in Michigan? We answer questions as the legal battles continue.

What has happened this week?The Court of Appeals issued a decision on Monday saying an injunction blocking enforcement of Michigan’s 1931 abortion ban does not apply to county prosecutors. Shortly thereafter, an Oakland County judge issued a temporary restraining order saying prosecutors must refrain from enforcing the 91-year-old law.

So what does that mean? Gov. Gretchen Whitmer says the temporary order ensures Michigan’s doctors, nurses and health care systems "can continue caring for their patients." We have more questions and answers here.

The judge reinforced his decision: Yesterday, the Oakland County judge heard arguments and ultimately continued his pause of the 1931 ban.

Peter Meijer loses to Trump-endorsed candidate:John Gibbs, a former Trump administration employee, defeated U.S. Rep. Peter Meijer in the GOP primary for Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District, riding a wave of anger at the first-term congressman for voting to impeach Trump following the Jan. 6 riot.

Kelley refuses to concede:Ryan Kelley, a GOP candidate in Michigan’s gubernatorial primary race, said he refuses to concede to the new GOP gubernatorial nominee Tudor Dixon after coming in fourth place in Tuesday’s election.

Report from the secretary of state: Despite a handful of hiccups across the state, Michigan’s first major election since a tense November 2020 was a generally smooth operation.

Taking out students loans this year? It's going to cost more.

Another place where prices are rising:If you need to borrow money for college this year, the price will be higher, as interest rates for federal student loans have jumped more than a percentage point, the biggest hike in nearly a decade.

The numbers: The U.S. Department of Treasury announced undergraduate loans will have a 4.99% interest rate — up from 3.73% last year and nearly double the 2.75% rate two years ago. That means a college freshman borrowing the maximum $5,500 will pay $399 more in interest over 10 years.

But will loan debt be eliminated?Those who already owe the federal government for student loans are waiting to see if President Joe Biden will erase some of that debt.

It's officially football season for the Michigan Wolverines.

Camp begins in Ann Arbor: Rejoice, Wolverines! The pads are back on and the players will spend the next month preparing for the season opener Sept. 3 against Colorado State.

Lots of work to do: Several questions need to be answered and multiple position battles will be settled before next month as the Wolverines look to build off their most successful season under Jim Harbaugh, which included a Big Ten title and a College Football Playoff appearance.

Elsewhere in the world of Wolverines: New baseball coach Tracy Smith said Michigan "checked all the boxes" for a "special opportunity."
