Roads, another budget cycle and other issues facing the Michigan legislature in 2020
 
Last year didn't exactly go smoothly for Michigan's state government. Republican legislative leaders and Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer never could come to an agreement to "fix the damn roads." The entire budget process was drawn-out and contentious. This year, they have to face all of that again. Can a compromise lead to funding for the state's roads? Michigan's poorest school districts, based on median family income

Earlier this week, we looked at the wealthiest school districts in Michigan, based on recently released Census data. On the other end of the spectrum, these are the state's 70 least-affluent districts. They all come in well under the state median of $69,790, with the lowest number found in Highland Park, where the median family income is recorded at $16,847. MORE

Michigan recreational marijuana sales surpass $1.7 million last week

As additional recreational marijuana shops open in Michigan, sales hit a weekly high from Dec. 30 through Jan. 5. Nearly $1.8 million in adult-use marijuana was purchased during the week, with the state taking in nearly $300,000 in taxes.
