In today's newsletter, a look at President Joe Biden's visit to Michigan, a weather rollercoaster is coming for Michigan in the next two weeks and the fight to raise the minimum wage for tipped workers continues.

Take a minute to really savor this feeling, Michigan fans.

With football, there is always something bigger to turn your attention toward, until the season is over. And while there is a Big Ten Championship and then (likely) the College Football Playoff to think about, I encourage Michigan fans to enjoy this very moment.

It's been a really special season, with a 12-0 record giving Wolverines a thrill they haven't experienced since 1997. Jim Harbaugh is Big Ten coach of the year and two team members are Big Ten players of the year. It's time to celebrate. Raise your glass right now, no matter what the coming weeks bring.

A year has passed since four were killed and seven others were injured in the Oxford school shooting.

Lawmakers honor victims: Today marks one year since the shooting at Oxford High School left four students dead. It’s been a "whirlwind of emotions throughout the district since that horrible day" said Sen. Rosemary Bayer, a Democrat who represents the district that includes Oxford.

Bayer said: "For too long, these children, our children, have to endure the trauma of active shooter training, and then, in Oxford, a real one." The senator is one of the Democrats who have been pushing for the passage of gun safety legislation since the shooting occurred.

Trial paused for shooter's parents: The Michigan Supreme Court has temporarily paused the trial of Jennifer and James Crumbley, the parents of Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley, and ordered the state Court of Appeals to reconsider whether there is enough evidence to charge them.

Visiting Bay County: The capstone of Biden's visit involved a rally event at SK Siltron, an expanding Monitor Township-based plant. Biden said the facility that produces components for electric vehicles was among the reasons he was optimistic about the future of America’s next-gen manufacturing industry.

Preparing for Air Force One: Preparing to receive the president's aircraft is a "one-of-a-kind" operation at MBS Airport in Saginaw County.

La Niña winter ups and downs will smack Michigan in the next two weeks.

Rollercoaster weather: This winter has been forecasted to have larger-than-normal swings in the weather pattern. The next two weeks are going to fit that weather description exactly, according to MLive Chief Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa.

What's next for Khary Crump and other Michigan State players charged in tunnel incidents?

Warrants issued: Warrants were issued on Monday for seven Michigan State football players facing assault charges for their roles in postgame incidents following an Oct. 29 loss at Michigan. The Big Ten also issued a $100,000 fine for MSU. Tom Izzo spoke up, saying he didn't agree with the unequal discipline.

So what's next? Attorney David Diamond said an arraignment could potentially come this week. The cases against the seven players will then work through the legal system and Diamond noted first-time offender diversion programs in Michigan as a possibility.

The fight to raise minimum wage for tipped workers in Michigan continues.

Continued concerns: With the implementation of a 2018 ballot measure to raise Michigan’s tipped wage to minimum wage levels still in flux, some in the restaurant industry are concerned that should it go into effect come February 2023 their overall earnings will take a hit.

Survey says: An online survey of 336 tipped employees currently working at full-service restaurants this September indicated 83% of respondents said they preferred the current tipped wage system when asked to choose between it or a system with a higher base wage though less certain tips.

Speaking of ballot measures:Proposal 2, which passed with 60% of the vote, makes a handful of election changes in the state constitution. Nine days of early in-person voting is the biggest. How exactly it gets implemented is still unknown.
