It's time to make your voices heard, Michiganders. Today's primary election has plenty going for it. Most notably, it will set the stage for the Nov. 6 general election, which is shaping up to be one of the most important U.S. midterm elections ever. Historic fire continues to scorch its way across California

This newsletter is a decidedly Michigan-centric endeavor. However, from time to time, a national story deserves our attention. The Mendocino Complex Fire surged over the weekend, and by Monday night was on record as the largest fire in California history. The Ferguson Fire has effectively shut down Yosemite National Park for the foreseeable future. Then there is the Carr Fire near Redding, which ranks among the state's five largest fires of all time. Despite all the talented players that have been shipped out of Motown, the early results tend to favor the Tigers. Of course, only time will tell if Detroit's restocked minor leagues will start churning out major leaguers. MORE
