July will be bringing the heat, and watch out for spectacular sunsets this week
 
MLive chief meteorologist Mark Torregrossa has a pair of interesting tidbits to pass along coming out of the holiday weekend. First, he's got the longterm outlook for the rest of July. Not to steal Torregrossa's thunder (weather pun intended), but it looks as if summer is here to stay. (Yay!) Second, our hazy skies this week don't portend a brewing storm system. (Other wrong answers include firework show residue or recreational pot enthusiasts.) Smoke from wildfires in Canada have drifted south. Mark T says the haze may stay for a couple more days. MORE

Michigan farmers get share of $8.55 billion aid package
 
Michigan farmers negatively affected by international trade disputes have received nearly $200 million in subsidies this year during the first round of the Market Facilitation Program, a $12 billion aid package. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has identified nine tariff-affected commodities, with soybean farmers being the most affected.
