Legislature, governor need to follow the will of the people and stop lame duck bills
Michiganders spoke loud and clear at the ballot box in November, but the Republican-led legislature apparently didn't hear them. A number of controversial proposals have been rammed through during this lame duck session, as lawmakers wrongly seek to alter the ballot proposals voters passed by wide margins in November, the MLive Media Group editorial board wrote Wednesday. The editorial argued lawmakers should halt their efforts, and Gov. Rick Snyder should respect the will of voters and refuse to sign any changes into law. MORE

'People are on their own' to find legal marijuana
 
As of today, recreational marijuana is legal in Michigan for adults 21 and over. (Take a moment and breathe that fact in!) However, don't expect to see bong parties on every city corner. Pot remains illegal to use in public, and good luck finding it. Official retail sales of the green stuff won't start for at least a year as state officials work on setting up licensing programs for businesses. MORE

Land in 20 counties available in DNR auction
 
Now is your chance to say yes to owning your very own beautiful piece of Michigan wilderness. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources occasionally puts up parcels of land for sale. Next week, 81 plots - ranging in size from 1 acre to 160 acres - will be up for auction. The DNR has identified these parcels as isolated from other land managed by the agency, thus making them difficult to manage. MORE
