In today's newsletter, we look at how long winter weather will be on hold, a PFAS regulator opposes an expansion of Camp Grayling and the price of eggs is up nearly 50%. |
One of the worst parts of adulting? Thinking about bills. |
I really love being an adult. Hey, childhood was cool. But now I can eat ice cream for breakfast without permission and stay up as late as I want. Yeah, in my mid-30s I still appreciate these things. One thing I don't appreciate, however, is budgeting. But like everything in life, this annoying adult task is easier with some help. This week's Wallet Watch has tips on how to get your budget back on track in 2023. With the price of eggs (read more down below), it's currently a time to reevaluate spending habits. So, here's some help. Or you could just win the lottery and buy a beach house like this Alpena County man. |

Jan. 6 documents show 5 Michigan legislators told Trump campaign they'd support false electors. |
What the documents show:When the campaign of former president Donald Trump called Michigan legislators in December 2020 asking if they’d support a slate of alternate electors who’d vote for then-President Trump — despite Joe Biden’s 154,000-vote victory — five reportedly said yes. 3 of the legislators were reelected in 2022: Sens. Jon Bumstead, R-Newaygo; Rick Outman, R-Six Lakes and Roger Victory, R-Husonville, reportedly said they’d support appointing an alternate slate of Trump electors.
More in politics:As she prepares to be sworn in, Democratic representative-elect Hillary Scholten of Grand Rapids says she’s optimistic about finding ways to accomplish her priorities despite her party being in the minority. |

Winter is on hold for Michigan, but for how long? |
Not so cold: My winter coat has been taking a break recently, as the lighter jackets make a reappearance. Trust me, I'm not complaining. But if you are like me, you might be curious how long this temporary reprieve from true winter weather will last. As always, Mark Torregrossa has some insight. Be careful out there: With these warmer-than-normal temperatures, officials across the state, including in Washtenaw County, are warning residents to be careful regarding ice. The unseasonable temps are causing a lot of unsafe conditions.
The winter sky: An extra bright full moon is in store for us this week. It's called the Wolf Moon and it peaks Friday evening, but will also be impressive Saturday. |

This historic Michigan home looks like something out of 'Game of Thrones,' and it's on the market. |
Wow! Look at this : This 8,019 square-foot mansion was built to resemble a castle with soaring wood-beamed ceilings, stone facade and long-arched hallways. And then there’s the great room, which looks like something out of "Medieval Times." Check it out. Like historic homes? If you missed it last month, we featured this 152-year-old southern colonial-style mansion in Jackson. And if you are in the market, it's still for sale. Real estate elsewhere:Our sister site NJ.com has a special listing highlighted this week. It just so happens that is was at one time used as a location for a "The Sopranos" mob family. But be warned if you have been saving a first viewing of the show for a rainy day, this story does include a significant spoiler. |
