Answers about long COVID are slowing coming into focus. |
A long wait for answers: Long COVID continues to offer more questions than answers 27 months into the coronavirus pandemic, though researchers are slowly gaining a better understanding. Dr. Matthew Sims says: "It’s complicated, it’s confusing. To be honest, I think we’re going to find that long COVID is the same sort of problem we see with other things and all the research that’ll end up being done on long COVID, because it’s such a big issue, may help other diseases like fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome, that are really hard to figure out right now. We don’t know.” What are the symptoms? A recent study found breathing issues were the most common ongoing symptom, followed by loss or distorted sense of smell or taste, and lingering anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues. |

Empty shelves: Why tampons, Sriracha and peanut butter are in short supply. |
In case you missed it: Late last week, we offered up this piece that looks at why some specific items are in such short supply right now. If you've been missing some of your go-to products, it's worth a read. It started with COVID: Michigan shoppers have been seeing sporadic empty grocery store shelves since March 2020. But a recent survey from Retail Insight found that 71% of U.S. consumers think shortages are worse now than in the early days of pandemic panic buying.
Hot sauce summer? Probably not, if you are into Sriracha. Hoy Fong Foods, the company that produces the hot sauce with a cult-like following, confirmed an “unprecedented shortage” of its chili products. |

Drummond Island is a Michigan escape for outdoor adventurers. |
An island escape:Have you been to Drummond Island? Situated at the northern tip of Lake Huron, it's the second-largest freshwater island in the United States. What can be found there? Rare ecosystems, prehistoric seabeds, ancient shipwrecks, and a trail system unlike any other in the state are a few of the draws that beckon people to this unspoiled “gem of the Huron." Read more about this vacation-worthy Michigan destination.
Another lovely summer destination: We recommend making some time for wine tasting among the rolling vineyards of the Old Mission and Leelanau peninsulas. After all, Shady Lane has a new white wine slushy. |
