What Main Streets in Michigan looked like a century ago
Downtown areas are rebounding in a big way across Michigan, as Millennials lead the migration back to city centers and urban living. It seems everything old is new again. Before the rise of automobiles and the lure of large suburban yards, the very core of a community was Main Street. Not too long ago, one could do everything one needed to do on such a road - from shopping to banking to dining - without the need of a car. You know, the kind of place so many communities are trying to resurrect. Life and Culture reporter Emily Bingham takes us along for a stroll through history with archived photos of Main Streets of yore. MORE

During a ceremony in Detroit's Delray neighborhood, Gov. Rick Snyder said the bridge was more than just a connection between counties and the economics of trade, but also "about friendship." MORE

Ex-Tiger Jim Rooker still a little sore over 1968 World Series

It's been 50 years since Jim Rooker made his Major League debut with the Detroit Tigers. It's been 50 years since the Tigers won the 1968 World Series. It's also been 50 years of consternation for Rooker who spent most of that season in the minor leagues and didn't get a World Series ring. Thankfully, we don't have to feel too badly for him. He enjoyed a fine 13-year run in the Majors, highlighted by a World Series title in 1979 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. MORE
