 Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, communities across Michigan have relied on large-scale sites for testing and vaccinations. In the case of both services, mass clinics were important early on as supplies were low and demand was high. But as the supply and demand landscape shifted, the state has reallocated its resources to focus less on sheer volume and more on increasing accessibility. “The super large sites, we’ve moved away from that as a strategy at this point,” said Dr. Sarah Lyon-Callo, an epidemiologist for the state’s Department of Health and Human Services. “But I think there will always be a need to surge testing in particular areas if we see cases going up in a community.” READ MORE  Michigan ranks fifth in the nation for states with the most openly LGBTQ elected officials, according to a new report that also found LGBTQ officials nationwide more than doubled in the last four years. The data comes from LGBTQ Victory Institute, a political organization that identifies and trains LGBTQ candidates. An annual report released in July found 986 openly LGBTQ elected officials are serving across the U.S. -- including 37 in Michigan -- though the organization says 28,116 more must be elected to achieve equitable representation, based on estimates of the LGBTQ population.
