1.4M fewer opioid prescriptions were written in Michigan last year
 
Opioid prescriptions in Michigan have been declining since 2015, and 2018 showed the largest one-year decline in recent history. In total, 1.4 million fewer prescriptions were handed out throughout the state last year, marking a 15-percent drop. Experts are attributing the decline to a system implemented in 2017 that helps the healthcare community track opioid usage.

Current pattern says 'derecho,' but what does that mean?
 
The upper-air pattern looks like it could produce derechos, according to MLive Chief Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa. But what is a derecho? It is a straight-line wind storm that can develop during a fast-moving cluster of thunderstorms. Free agency: Red Wings bring back Valtteri Filppula, sign others

Going into free agency, the Detroit Red Wings were looking for a forward and a defenseman. As the sun set on Monday, the team had two new players and one returning to the Motor City. Forward Valtteri Filppula is returning to Detroit after he left in 2013. Two new Red Wings also signed on, as deals were made with defenseman Patrik Nemeth and goaltender Calvin Pickard.
