September 28, 2020 Shortly after President Donald Trump nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett for the U.S. Supreme Court, Michigan Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters said they will not vote for her. Stabenow and Peters, both Democrats, released separate statements hitting Barrett on her opposition to the Affordable Care Act and saying the court vacancy should not be filled before the Nov. 3 election. Early voting has already begun in Michigan. “The people of Michigan have the right to cast their votes and decide the future of their health care as well as the future of our country," Stabenow said in her statement.
