U-M's Final Four road hits dead end named Donte
Only one team was going to leave the court last night happy at the NCAA men's basketball title game in San Antonio. And thanks to the red-hot shooting of Villanova super-sub sophomore Donte DiVincenzo, Michigan was left feeling blue. Villanova won its second title in three years with a 79-62 victory, as DiVincenzo erupted for a career-high 31 points. U-M's vaunted defense kept national player of the year Jalen Brunson in check, but had no answer for DiVincenzo. The Wolverines offense hit another cold patch and couldn't keep pace. The loss ended an incredible season for Michigan, and the outstanding careers of a trio of seniors. Thank you, boys, for the fun ride. MORE

Northern Michigan to face brunt of snowstorm; dangerous road conditions possible all over

Now that today's reality has sunk in of a massive April snowstorm, it's time to act accordingly. First of all, be extra cautious on roadways across the state. Northern Michigan will take one for the team with around a foot of snow in some areas, but icy roads could be an issue from the U.P. to the Toledo suburbs. (Shout out to Monroe County!) Second of all, maybe don't break your back shoveling this mess. In a few short weeks, this will all be a distant memory. Why chance a pulled muscle? MORE

Dogs escape family home, shot and killed on neighbor's farm

A family is mourning the death of its two pet huskies, and a farmer is defending what he deems were justifiable kills. The dogs allegedly entered a fenced cow pasture Friday and were attacking beef cattle, when a farmworker ended the threat by shooting both. Michigan law allows for the protection of livestock in such an instance. Neither side is happy with what happened, and our MLive commenting community certainly has had a thing or two to say about a thing or two. MORE

Tigers notch first win, but still stinging from replay overturn

First the good news: The Detroit Tigers picked up their first win of the Ron Gardenhire era Monday with a 6-1 win against Kansas City. Now the odd news: Major League Baseball may or may not have admitted it erred in its video replay ruling on Opening Day that snatched a win away from Detroit. Gardenhire on Monday said MLB acknowledged "mistakes were made" in its video review process. But a few hours later, MLB said replay officials made the right call. Either way, it's in the books as a Tigers' loss, so, whatever. MORE

Firewood changes coming to state park campgrounds

Michigan campers weren't pleased last year when the DNR announced it was working on restrictions to where campground firewood could be purchased. Those new rules are nearly in place in time for the summer season. The state has long encouraged a "buy it where you burn it" mantra in an effort to curb the spread of invasive species, such as the emerald ash borer. MORE
