 Daily COVID case counts and contact tracing have been long-maintained public health strategies throughout the coronavirus pandemic as a means to assess community transmission rates. But as the world sets its eyes on the next stage of life with COVID, health officials will have to determine which data and strategies to prioritize, and which can be scrapped to shift resources elsewhere. “As the pandemic moves and shifts, the way we collect our data and the way we look at the numbers also has to move and shift,” said Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, Michigan’s acting chief medical executive. READ MORE ►Herd immunity could be even harder to reach with omicron surge  A U.S. House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 riot issued subpoenas for two Michigan Republicans who signed illegitimate certificates claiming former President Donald Trump won the election. The committee issued subpoenas to 14 Republicans from states won by President Joe Biden who attempted to cast Electoral College votes for Trump. Subpoenas were issued Friday for Republican National Committeewoman Kathy Berden and Marya Rodriguez, who served as the chair and secretary of Michigan’s Republican electors. They were among 16 Trump electors who signed certificates falsely claiming to be Michigan’s “duly elected and qualified electors” on Dec. 14, 2020. An Oct. 28, 2021 letter from Bruce Berman, general counsel of the Washington-D.C.-based WilmerHale law firm, informed an individual who filed a formal complaint with University of Michigan’s Equity, Civil Rights and Title IX Office that his firm is performing the university’s investigation into the allegations. Some areas in the southern half of the Lower Peninsula could see up to 8 inches of heavy snow, National Weather Service meteorologists say. The NWS offices in Michigan began putting out cautionary forecasts this weekend, telling people to prepare for a weather system that could pack ice, snow and freezing rain. Travel conditions in some areas could become hazardous. MLive spoke with victims of auto thefts about their experiences. All occurred during the large surge of stolen cars in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo in 2020 and 2021. During the two-year period, the two large West Michigan cities combined to average nearly two cars stolen per day. We talked to auto theft victims, including Luke Schrader of Portage who had two vehicles stolen out of their driveway in July 2021. “I woke up and both of our vehicles were gone.
