Michigan gas prices set 2024 record. You’ll pay the most in these 3 cities |
At the pump: The Michigan average gas price is $3.65 per gallon for regular unleaded – that’s a new 2024 record high, according to AAA. Grand Rapids, Jackson, and Saginaw are ranked as the most expensive cities in the state for gas. Taking over:If the city of Ann Arbor wants to assume ownership of four state-owned roads that cut through town, it should request $82 million from the Michigan Department of Transportation to bring them up to a state of good repair, city-hired consultants advise. Under construction: A series of closures are in place in Livingston County as work resumes on a $162-million expansion of U.S. 23′s Flex Route. The closures are expected to last through summer and target the Silver Lake Road exit. |

20K Grand Rapids homes, businesses without drinking water for days due to boil-water notice |
In Grand Rapids: Roughly 20,000 homes and businesses in downtown and northeast Grand Rapids along with a majority of Grand Rapids Township will remain under a boiled water advisory through at least Wednesday. The advisory was issued on Sunday, March 17, after a water main break. Check the list: With so many affected consumers, the city estimates this is the largest advisory in the last 15 years. Here is a list of businesses that are temporarily closed due to the advisory. No school: Grand Rapids Public Schools will be closed Tuesday, March 19, with a large part of the city under a boil-water advisory. The district will decide later whether to close on Wednesday, too. |

Cool pattern continues Tuesday with a bit of snow |
Winter weather: Cold, blustery weather is in store for a majority of the state Tuesday as we continue to see the effects of a low-pressure system that swept across the state this past weekend. The main lake-effect belts of the U.P. and northern Lower Peninsula snowbelt regions could see 1-3 inches of snow. Unpredictable: National Weather Service meteorologists are anticipating "unsettled weather" for the second half of the week. The weather pattern could bring series of small snow pockets and gusty winds, or a larger storm system in Michigan that would bring snow to the northern part of our state. The southern part could see thunderstorms and a wintery mix. HWA found: Federal forest officials confirmed the discovery of invasive hemlock woolly adelgid within the Huron-Manistee National Forests near Lake Michigan. The pests were found at Hamlin Lake on Jan. 31 and at Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area on Feb. 2. |

Good move: Michigan State spent its November doing what it typically does: playing a difficult non-conference schedule against some of the top teams in the country. Tom Izzo credits that routine for MSU making its 26th consecutive tournament during Selection Sunday. Strategy:The odds of filling out a perfect bracket are about 1 in 9.2 quintillion, but that won’t stop millions of people from submitting at least one bracket this year. Here are some tips to improve your odds of winning before submitting your bracket. Consequences: On Monday afternoon, the NBA announced a $25,000 fine imposed on a Detroit Pistons guard for his actions following their Sunday afternoon loss to the Miami Heat. |

Michigan is a flu hotspot right now |
Be aware: The respiratory virus season isn’t over yet and Michigan is a flu hotspot right now, along with 13 other states, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Among the three big respiratory viruses – flu, COVID-19 and RSV – the flu has the highest rate of positive tests, 15.4%, nationwide, The Associated Press reports. Also in health: Experimental weight loss drugs similar to Zepbound or Wegovy are showing promising results in early clinical trials, which could help improve supply deficiencies and reduce high prices for existing medical weight loss options. Mental health: A Michigan senator is asking the state health department to disclose patient weight change data and nutrition guidelines for youth under the state’s psychiatric care. Sen. Michael Webber, R-Rochester Hills, said he’s heard concerns from parent groups that children are losing weight under the state’s care and not enough food is being given to them. |
