See thousands of Christmas lights set to music every night in December |
If finding the creative and entertaining Christmas lights displays is on your holiday bucket list, you're in luck. The Freeland Lights Show is back for the 2023 holiday season. Head to Saginaw County's Hayes Park to experience thousands of colorful Christmas lights set to seasonal music for a cause. The show kicks off each night at 5:30 p.m. and runs until the end of December. In Washtenaw County, check out more than 100,000 lights from the comfort of your car at the Ann Arbor Baptist Church. The church anticipates this year’s display will be the largest yet. |

Michigan government vehicles to be zero emissions by 2040 under Whitmer order |
Clean energy: Every vehicle in the state government’s fleet must be zero-emissions by 2040 after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive order establishing the goal. Light-duty vehicles will have a target date of 2033 for the transition and 2040 for medium and heavy-duty vehicles. Also from the state: Parks, trails and sports facilities across 15 Michigan counties will receive more than $8.4 million for improvement and expansion projects, the state announced. In Ottawa County: After all four current veterans affairs staff members for Ottawa County announced their resignation, county officials say more than 30 people have applied to become the new director of veterans affairs. |

Warm-up, some sunshine to finish the week |
A little warmer: Temperatures are about to take an upward swing across Michigan for the end of the week, with a lot of us seeing the 40s for highs in the coming days. In addition, there may also be a chance at seeing some sunshine for a little while. In the U.P.: The wintry period of cold and snow is going to take a little break this week into the Upper Peninsula, as warm temperatures are expected to return. Parts of Northern Michigan could end up reaching the mid to upper 40s before the week is over. Take a guess: Here’s your chance to take a guess at this season’s snowfall total for one of the snowiest spots in Michigan. The Visit Keweenaw tourism bureau is hosting a snowfall guessing contest this winter for Keweenaw County, located in Michigan’s northernmost peninsula. |

Pistons lose 18th straight game as Memphis’ Desmond Bane scores 49 |
The Detroit Pistons featured a new starting lineup for the third time in under a week on Wednesday. However, it didn’t matter as they fell 116-102 to the undermanned Memphis Grizzlies. The loss extends the Pistons’ franchise-record losing streak to 18 games. On the field: The Detroit Lions have avoided playing in the elements this season, as their last four games have been held in warm weather. That changes with this weekend’s trip to face the Chicago Bears, with this game circled as the one potential bad-weather game on the team’s schedule.
