In today's newsletter, Michigan’s weekend weather, Jim Harbaugh denies any ‘illegal’ sign-stealing and Triscuit wants to become the ‘Unofficial State Snack of Michigan’. |
Whether you're rooting for Michigan or Michigan State, I think everyone just wants to see an entertaining, sportsmanlike game. Players from both teams said they've moved on from the tunnel incident, plus the Wolverines already have some drama on their plate as they are under NCAA investigation for sign stealing. To help bring the fun back to this rivalry that has been boiling out of control in recent years, a pair of former sports reporters from both sides are meeting in the middle to try to calm the intensity with their ‘I Love You, But You’re an Idiot’ podcast. I hope you have a great college football Saturday surrounded by friends, family and delicious game day food. |

Michigan lands $122+ million in federal funds to reduce power outages |
Consumers Energy said it will spend a major federal grant to bolster its electrical grid. The U.S. Department of Energy announced $3.5 billion in power grid investment nationwide, including more than $122 million coming to Michigan. Consumers Energy will get $100 million and DTE Energy will receive nearly $23 million. In Lansing: Bills are moving forward that are meant to fix the disruptions in the catastrophic care sector caused by the 2019 reforms to Michigan's no-fault insurance program. Insurers say they'll increase costs. An issue for parents: As the cost of child care continues to climb, Michigan parents are left looking for a solution to what's increasingly being referred to as the "$10,000 problem." |

Michigan’s weekend weather |
Classic October: You’ll see areas of occasional showers rotating through Saturday and dry weather Sunday. With the dry skies for most of us will come some occasional sunshine Sunday but also our first shot at frost. Up North forecast: Friday will start a cooling trend for the weekend, as high temperatures in the U.P. will only reach the mid to upper 40s. Saturday will only reach the low to mid 40. Sunday is predicted to be warmer. On the road: Here's where drivers may encounter road closures and be aware - this is the last weekend to visit the Upper Peninsula’s 32 roadside parks before they close for the season. |

‘I’m feeling Black and I’m feeling female,’ white male county commissioner says in DEI pushback |
“Don’t volunteer”: A white male Kalamazoo County commissioner said he would respond to a county survey by saying he is a Black female, and encouraged county road commission employees to either do the same or not respond. More in politics: One of the 16 Republicans who signed documents falsely certifying electoral college votes for then-President Donald Trump agreed to cooperate with state prosecutors in exchange for having charges dropped. Climbing up: A man trying to scale the bluff beside the Michigan governor’s summer residence on Mackinac Island was detained and escorted off the island in late August, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s office confirmed. |

Jim Harbaugh pushes back, denies any ‘illegal’ sign-stealing at Michigan |
Speaking out: Jim Harbaugh issued a response to the latest NCAA investigation into the Michigan football program, denying any knowledge or involvement in scouting violations or alleged signal-stealing. Quote from Woodruff: “As we look forward to the football game this Saturday, we are chagrined by the news of the NCAA investigation and we echo the Big Ten Conference’s commitment to integrity,” Michigan State interim president Teresa Woodruff said in a university statement. Uniform change: The Lions practiced in their new blue alternate helmets, which they plan to debut next week on Monday Night Football. The Spartans will debut black uniforms and helmets Saturday. |

Why Triscuit wants to become the ‘Unofficial State Snack of Michigan’ |
For more than 15 years, Triscuit crackers have been made withwhite winter wheat harvested at Michigan farms like J&L Gremel Farms in Belmont and Jade Farms in Pigeon. In total, the brand has partnered with a farming collective of over 1,000 generational family farmers in Michigan. It’s a little-known fact, even among Michigan residents. As a result, Mondelez International, the company behind the cracker, is taking steps to make Triscuit the “Unofficial State Snack of Michigan” via an online petition launched this week.
