Search for best Mexican restaurant finds a winner on the Lakeshore
The Michigan's Best determined duo of Amy Sherman and John Gonzalez made their pick for Michigan's Best Mexican restaurant. All it took was spending three weeks to visit 41 restaurants and logging more than 2,500 miles on the highways and byways of our great state. The fine establishments Gonzo and Sherm experienced during their search didn't make their task easy. Turns out there's a lot of great Mexican eats in Michigan. In the end, the best Mexican restaurant nod goes to Muskegon mainstay El Tapatio. However, its pretty hard to go wrong with any of the top 10. MORE

How much house will $300K get you across Michigan?

All housing markets are not created equal. Just ask someone from another part of Michigan trying to break into Ann Arbor's hot (inflated?) housing market. Really, its a good time to sell in many areas of the state. However, what $300K gets you in Grand Rapids isn't the same as what it might land you in, say, Saginaw. (Location. Location. Location.) Michiganders, at least, can take solace in the fact that $300K still gets a decent home here. Just another reason our coast is the best coast. MORE

Northwestern students will attend Southwestern next year; the Northwestern building will house the district's alternative learning program going forward. Fare thee well, Jaguars. MORE

Column: What does the future hold for mighty Miggy?

Miguel Cabrera's 2018 season ended Tuesday night. He will have surgery on his ruptured left bicep. It is a significant injury, and it is impossible to tell how well he will bounce back. As Detroit Tigers beat writer Evan Woodbery notes, Tiger fans have been afforded the privilege of watching up close one of the greatest players in the history of the game. He's a surefire Hall of Famer if he never takes another at-bat. When the 2019 season starts, he'll be just shy of his 36th birthday with five years left on his contract. Hard not to wonder how his stellar career wraps up. MORE

Pedestrian bridge outlasts controversy to become area landmark

There was a bit of a public outcry when Midland's Tridge was built in 1981 for just shy of a million dollars. (Some claimed it was a waste of money.) Now, the three-legged pedestrian bridge, which spans the Chippewa and Tittabawassee rivers, is one of the Midland area's most recognizable landmarks. (Seriously, if a certain segment of the population had its way, nothing fun ever would be built.) We compiled a list of 13 fun facts about the Tridge to commemorate the recent completion of a $2.5 million renovation project. MORE
