As coronavirus surges elsewhere, Michigan's numbers still down. Can we continue the trend? You might have seen a graphic floating around on the internet that showed most of the country in shades of red, orange and yellow, while Michigan was shaded green. The graphic indicated that Michigan is on a downward swing for the coronavirus. Our numbers are going down while some other parts of the country are seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases. We are listed as one of only three states "on track" to contain the virus, with our daily average of new cases dropping by 50% since June 1. But now that the state has mostly reopened, can we keep up the downward trend? Well, before a sculpture has even arrived in Muskegon, it is causing quite a conversation. MORE 2 University of Michigan athletes test positive for coronavirus As student-athletes started returning to the University of Michigan campus this week, they underwent COVID-19 tests. After testing 221 students, the university reported two of the tests were positive. There were three teams returning to the Ann Arbor campus this week -- football and men’s and women’s basketball -- though it is unclear from which team or teams the positive tests came.
